Focus on sustainability

As a medium-sized company, we consider sustainability a central component of our business practices. At TUPAG, we see it as our responsibility to make a positive contribution to society and the environment.

  • Our understanding of sustainability is based on the ESG concept. “Environment” stands for the environment, “Social” for social responsibility and “Governance” for corporate management.
  • As a guideline for our lived responsibility, we developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy in 2022 and identified the sustainability topics that are essential to us. These include climate protection, the preservation of biodiversity, soil health, and water and plant protection.
  • The expertise of "Baumschulen Oberdorla", as a subsidiary of the Tupag Group, can make an important contribution to the goal of climate protection.
  • This contribution lies in the production of resilient tree species for the forest of the future that can cope with the challenges of climate change.
  • As a result of over 20 years of research with project partners such as the Humboldt University of Berlin and the state-owned company Sachsenforst, the Baumschulen Oberdorla have developed a process to produce a particularly strong, vigorous and climate-stable hybrid larch in vitro.
  • At our location in Thuringia, we offer our employees a secure workplace and make an important contribution to strengthening our local community.

In 1713, Hans Carl von Carlowitz wrote his work "Sylvicultura oeconomica" in Freiberg. In response to the deforestation of forests, he devoted himself to reforestation and sustainable use to secure the wood supply for mining and smelting industries. Already 300 years ago, economic and ecological considerations were intertwined, and profit and sustainability were not seen as opposing forces. He was the first to coin the term "sustainability."
